The first trailer for the eighth season of “The Walking Dead” was unveiled Friday at Comic-Con in San Diego, teasing the show’s long-awaited season premiere — which also happens to be the show’s 100th episode.
The trailer opens on a dark, ominous note. “I hope you got your sh*ttin’ pants on,” Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) tells his captive, Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam). This is followed by quick cuts of Rick (Andrew Lincoln), the rest of the Survivors and the citizens of The Kingdom preparing for what promises to be an epic battle.
The most shocking part of the trailer comes at the very end, when we see a cane leaning against a wall, and then a shot of an older looking Rick, sporting a long, grey beard. This seemingly confirms rumours that the show would follow a storyline in the comic books upon which it’s based, in which the action jumps forward several years to depict Rick and the Survivors in the “Alexandria Safe Zone,” where Rick’s dreams of creating a peaceful society have apparently come to fruition until events conspire to send everything crashing down.
During Friday’s Comic-Con panel for “The Walking Dead”, showrunner Scott M. Gimple paid tribute to stuntman John Bernacker, who tragically lost his life during a stunt gone wrong while filming season eight last week.
“John passed away last week after he was injured doing something he loved,” Gimple told the fans in attendance, reports Deadline. “He helped make movies and shows for people like everyone in this room. He was living his dream.”
The eighth season of “The Walking Dead” kicks off on Sunday, Oct. 22.
