90 Hospitalized At Chance The Rapper Show, Mostly Underage Fans Treated For ‘Severe Intoxication’

A Chance the Rapper concert in Hartford, Connecticut, turned into a medical emergency when more than 90 people had to be taken to a nearby hospital during the show, many of them underage fans who were treated for “excessive intoxication.”

As Associated Press reports, Hartford Deputy Chief Brian Foley said Saturday that officers made 50 underage drinking referrals Friday and transferred 90 people to hospital during the Hot 93.7 Hot Jam concert, held at Hartford’s Xfinity Theatre and headlined by Chance.

According to police, the crowd consisted largely of fans in their late teens and early 20s, and Foley noted that tailgating, partying and excessive alcohol consumption was “extremely prevalent” throughout the show, which was attended by about 21,000.

Foley says a large number of people hospitalized were underage attendees experiencing “severe intoxication,” and most of those charged with underage drinking were issued a “promise to appear” summons.
