Blake Lively Chooses Love Over Hate As She Defends Transgender Troops

Blake Lively took to social media yesterday to share a message of support for the transgender community after Donald Trump announced a ban of transgender military service members.

Following the U.S. President’s controversial ruling, which will see transgender individuals prohibited from serving in the U.S. military, Lively posted her thoughts to her followers on Instagram.

“THIS is America. WE the people. ALL THE PEOPLE. Today I stand with our fellow citizens,” the actress wrote. “No human being is a burden. I believe in equality. In freedom. In opportunity. In kindness, acceptance, and fairness.”

She continued: “I believe in this country, so I, and many others, sign the petition linked in the bio. Please join..💙💗🇺🇸💗💙”

The petition referenced in the message links to where users are demanding the shocking ban be overturned.

Lively’s post received a combination of praise and hate in the comments. “The Shallows” star chose to respond directly to one troll who wrote, “You catching that unfollow for this.”

“I choose love. That’s the only thing that we all have,” Lively responded. “It is peace. It is happiness. Not follows or unfollows. I wish happiness for you. And I hope you find that your heart has a bigger capacity than you give it credit for. I know it does.”

Trump tweeted about the ban yesterday morning, where he claimed that allowing transgender individuals to serve in the military would be a “burden” and “disruption” due to tremendous medical costs.

Lively was one of the many celebrities to speak out against the decision.
