Liam Payne has developed a tendency to refer to girlfriend Cheryl Cole (with whom he shares infant son Bear) as his “wife” in interviews — but does that mean the One Direction singer and the “X Factor” judge have tied the knot?
Apparently not, with Payne telling People that the term “wife” is a British colloquialism, and that the two don’t feel they’re ready to head to the altar yet.
“In the U.K., you say ‘the Mrs.,’” Payne explains, adding that the idea of marriage isn’t entirely out of the question.
“Maybe one day,” he says.

The rumour mill started to churn when Payne, 23, was interviewed on SiriusXM in May, and referred to Cheryl, 34, as his spouse. “I left my wife and child at home and I was straight out to In-N-Out burger,” said. “I’m just kidding.”
