Macklemore was involved in a serious car accident on Friday night but miraculously walked away unscathed after being reportedly hit head-on by another vehicle.

According to TMZ, the “Thrift Shop” rapper was driving his Mercedes in Langley, Washington (a remote island town about an hour-and-a-half north of Seattle), at approximately 11 p.m. Friday night when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver in a pickup truck, who crossed over from his lane and hit Macklemore’s car head-on.

The pickup truck driver was left unconscious and bleeding after smashing his head into the windshield, police say. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The man reportedly told officers at the scene that he only had a drink “awhile back.” When the officers asked how much, he reportedly replied “5 o’clock.”

There were two passengers in Macklemore’s car, but all three walked away from the accident. One of the passengers was treated for a minor head injury.

The driver of the pickup driver was taken to hospital and treated, with Washington State Police telling TMZ they plan to charge him with driving under the influence.

A spokesperson for the Washington State Police confirms TMZ’s account. In a statement to ET, the spokesperson says “the accident happened around 10:45 Friday night (7/28). He (Macklemore) was in Langley, Washington which is a tiny town two hours north of Seattle and driving his 2016 Mercedes when a 1986 Chevy pickup driven by a 24 yr. old crossed the centre line and hit Macklemore head on.”

The statement continues: “The 24 year old was injured but not seriously. He was injured enough that he had to be transported to the hospital and he was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Macklemore was not injured.”

The spokesperson was not aware if Macklemore had any passengers with him at the time.

Reps for Macklemore have not responded to a request for comment.
