Known to fans of “Game of Thrones” as priestess Melisandre, actress Carice van Houten has some fun in a new video courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar in which she reads a series of wacky fan theories about her character.
Just how out-there are these fan theories? “I think Melisandre can be charged up like an iPhone, and that ruby necklace is a power source,” reads one.
“Littlefinger is the Lord of Light,” reads another, referring to the “red god” Melisandre worships. “I don’t think he’s right,” adds van Houten of the theory, “but it’s an interesting thought.”
Another theory suggests that Melisandre “resurrects Princess Shireen as, that’s right, Ed Sheeran,” to which van Houten responds: “That’s funny. If only that were true.”
Meanwhile, van Houten, 40, gets serious in an interview with The Telegraph, revealing that she’s received death threats on Twitter from fans who didn’t appreciate Melisandre advising Stanis Baratheon to burn his daughter alive as a sacrifice to the Lord of Light.
“There are people who take it a little bit too seriously,” says the actress of the show’s more obsessed fans.
