President Donald Trump almost played a president in 2015’s “Sharknado 3: Hell No!”.
Casting director Gerald Webb revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Trump was incredibly close to playing the role in the Syfy TV movie.
According to Webb, Trump was the choice to play the president in the movie, next to billionaire Marc Cuban. The almost-casting took place well before Trump’s own presidency and Trump was apparently looking forward to taking on the role.
“We got pretty far. It was serious talks,” Webb said about the negotiations to have him star in the film. Negotiations stalled after his camp said he was considering a legitimate run for president. Since Trump was taking too long to take on the role, they gave it to Cuban instead.
Well, once Trump found out that the role had gone to Cuban, his lawyer contacted the team behind “Sharknado”.
“Then we immediately heard from Trump’s lawyer. He basically said, ‘How dare you? Donald wanted to do this. We’re going to sue you! We’re going to shut the entire show down!'” David Latt, co-founder of the off-brand assembly line behind the “Sharknado” franchise revealed.
“I took it personally, but I get it now. That was my moment of doing business with Donald Trump. And that’s Sharknado,” Webb acknowledged.
