Justin Trudeau is currently in British Columbia, and the outdoorsy PM made a splash — literally — while kayaking near Sydney, B.C. on Vancouver Island.
As CBC News reports, Trudeau decided to do some kayaking in the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, north of Victoria, but started things off on an inauspicious note when he fell into the water while attempting to get into his kayak.
While he may have been dampened, his spirits were not, and the PM joked that he was “happy the national media was there to capture that.”
His second attempt to get into the kayak was successful, and he embarked on his journey through the B.C. waters.
His kayak trip was not uneventful. As he paddled, Trudeau found himself pursued by a groom and bride — wearing her white wedding dress! – in a boat, who sailed up to his kayak and asked if he would pose for a selfie with them.
The affable PM obliged, with bride Michelle Gruetzner explaining she and new husband Heiner Gruetzner were holding their wedding reception on nearby Sidney Spit and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to meet him.
Not only did Trudeau pose for a photo, he also kissed the bride, twice.
Following his kayaking adventure, Trudeau took to Twitter to joke about his mishap:
Trudeau’s next stop is Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where he will participate in local business meetings.
The last time Trudeau was in Tofino, in August 2016, he made headlines when the shirtless PM photobombed a newly married couple’s wedding photo, with the resulting photo quickly going viral.
