Imagine you’re Kim Kardashian, pulling up in your $500,000 Mercedes SLR McLaren, only to realize there’s a very specific street sign preventing you from parking there, reading “No Kardashian Parking Anytime.”;
It could happen, as these anti-Kardashian parking signs are popping up throughout Los Angeles.
It’s not a new city ordinance, however, merely the work of an avant-garde artist called Plastic Jesus, who explains to The Hollywood Reporter that the signs are meant to comment on society’s obsession with celebrity.
“The Kardashian family has become ingrained in our culture,”; the artist tells THR. “We’ve allowed mainstream media to become so profit-driven, we are sacrificing genuine news stories to satiate our vapid celebrity obsessions.”;
Plastic Jesus says the idea arose after he saw one of the Kardashian sisters emerge from a store and become engulfed in a swarm of paparazzi. “I guarantee that same number of paparazzi was far greater than any number of photographers chasing real news.”;
Plastic Jesus posted photos of the signs, which have been placed at seven different locations throughout L.A., on Instagram.
Despite the artistic intent behind the signs, a spokesperson for the LAPD tells THR the signs are a clear case of vandalism; no charges have yet been filed.
