Elon Musk is one of the most famous tech entrepreneurs in the world, but what you may not have known is he’s also part-Canadian, and that his mom is a model, born in Canada.

Maye Musk was born in Regina, and according to the Huffington Post she and her twin sister moved with their family to Pretoria, South Africa, when they were just 3 years old.
The gorgeous 69-year-old has been modelling for five decades now, and no wonder. She was even a finalist in the 1969 Miss South Africa pageant. Judging from the photos she posts on Instagram, she’s a master of the art. She’s also been on the covers of magazines all over the world, including Elle Quebec, Time and Vogue Korea.
But she didn’t stop at modelling. Maye has two—TWO!—master’s degrees in dietetics and nutritional sciences, and works as a dietitian.
All that, plus raising three kids, all of whom have gone on to have impressive careers. The billionaire Tesla CEO Elon, as well as restaurateur Kimbal, and filmmaker Tosca.

Maye spent most of her time out of Canada, but when she was 42 she returned, choosing to live in Toronto with her kids. “”[The kids and I] all worked long hours to support ourselves,” she tells the Huffington Post. “I covered rent, food, clothes, transport, high school, they covered all their extra expenses.
“In my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t imagine I would be modelling at 69.”
Maye also feels like Canada has really rubbed off on her. “My sisters, brothers and I were brought up to be like our [Canadian] parents: kind, considerate, punctual, honest, gentle speaking and hardworking with wholesome family values,” she says.

In November, Maye will be coming back to Canada for a charity event. “I will be walking the runway in support of the Breast Restoration Unit at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world.”
