Ex-Scientology member Leah Remini is continuing her media assault on the controversial church and one of its most influential members, Tom Cruise.
While taking part in a Reddit AMA this week, the actress called the star “diabolical” after one user asked whether Cruise was a “good person.”
“No! Just going to get straight to it, no!” she answered. “There is a public persona of the guy who looks at you directly in the eye and shakes your hand and hugs you and is an attentive person to you and there’s the person behind the mask who is a completely different person.”
But Remini didn’t stop there. The former “King of Queens” star went on to compare him to the devil: “Someone could say we all have that – what we are to the public and who we are behind the scenes, but the people who are around Tom and work for Tom, not even people who are Scientologists, they will say he is diabolical,” she continued. “People who’ve worked with me will say I can be an a—— — all actors can be. That is different. He’s very similar to [the current leader of the Scientology,] David Miscavige, they could be twins.”
The revelation comes the same week as the season-two premiere of her A&E documentary show, “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath,” which follows the lives of former members.
Remini also addressed how existing members — Cruise, in particular — treat her after defecting from the religion and going public with her negative claims against the church.
“I have not bumped into Tom and if we were to be in the same room Tom would be forced to walk out of the room and avoid me and any ex-Scientologist,” she explained. “They ignore me and walk out of rooms.”
In a statement to ET Canada, a rep from the Church of Scientology responds to Remini’s claims, accusing her of attacking the church to seek attention.
“Remini’s purpose is to incite hate and bigotry against a worldwide religion and its parishioners,” declares the statement, “and she will stop at nothing to grab attention.”
