Police had to be brought in to break up a fight between former spouses Jon and Kate Gosselin, with the spat apparently stemming from which of the pair would be taking custody of one of their eight children following an orthodontist appointment.
According to a spokesperson for the police department in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, “we did respond to an orthodontic office here in our jurisdiction. The name of the office is called Reading Orthodontic Group. The call came in at 1:10 this afternoon for a verbal domestic argument between [Jon and Kate Gosselin] over the custody of one of their 13-year-old daughters,” the spokesperson tells ET.
The spokesperson added that “there was a fairly lengthy argument as far as both parents had conflicting versions of a child custody agreement. Basically both stated something different and we referred the matter over to our county district attorney.”
After the DA reviewed the documentation, police were told that the custody order was “sufficiently vague to interpret who was supposed to actually have custody today. Both parents read their version of the order and thought they should have had custody of the child today. So we referred them back to the court system to try and get clarification from the court system on who is supposed to have the child on certain days.”
When the dust settled, the spokesperson noted that “no one was arrested,” and that “the daughter did go home with the father after she expressed that was her desire to do.”
A statement obtained by ET Canada from the Wyomissing Police department reveals Kate was escorted out of the building. A second police incident report says Jon called to report he was being threatened with legal action by his ex-wife’s friend, but everyone had left the premises by the time police arrived.
The Gosselins split up while filming their reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8” back in 2009, and continue to disparage each other in the media. In early 2016, Gosselin revealed that he hadn’t been able to see all eight of his children together in three years, and that he hadn’t seen one of his sons in a year-and-a-half.
As for his communication with his ex, Gosselin insisted it was nonexistent. “We don’t talk,” he said. “We talk in court.”
