Filmdom’s most dangerous couple are about to make a comeback in what promises to be Hollywood’s most unconventional love story, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Jared Leto and Margot Robbie are set to reprise their “Suicide Squad” roles in a standalone sequel focusing on the Joker and Harley Quinn.
According to THR, the film is described as a “criminal love story,” following the criminal mayhem that surrounds this larcenous lovebirds.
“Insiders” tell THR that Warner Bros. is planning to to fast-track a “Suicide Squad” sequel, with the Joker/Harley Quinn film to go into production shortly after (the speed, notes THR, is so the actors’ holding agreements don’t expire).
The project is set to be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who are executive producers of NBC drama “This Is Us” and also wrote and co-directed the 2011 comedy “Crazy, Stupid Love”, starring Steve Carell, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
In addition to this film, Warner Bros. is also planning another Joker movie that will not feature Leto, but will cast a different actor to play the character during his formative years in Gotham City in the 1980s.
