A new trailer for “High School Musical 4” hit YouTube recently and has gone viral, featuring original stars including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale in a brand new instalment of the beloved musical franchise.
Seeing the trailer sent fans into a frenzy throughout social media, although not all of them realized one teensy detail: the “trailer” is a fake, created by a fan who edited together footage of the stars from their post-“HSM” projects into the bogus trailer, above.
In fact, the creator of the trailer — a YouTube user with the handle hsmutube — actually explains on the YouTube page that it isn’t real.
“First and foremost, this is a fan made trailer,” reads the message. “We’re living in a time of reboots and remakes and so I thought it would be fun to see what Troy and Gabriella have been doing these past 10 years. Still wishing that one day, they all come back to do a reunion movie. As East High’s alum prepare for their 10-year reunion, they realize a decade of change isn’t always a good thing. Now in their late twenties, these former wildcats are living out their dreams, starting families, and for some, looking for a second chance at love. It’s a reunion like no other, as they try to find what they’ve been looking for all these years.”
The confusion clearly resulted from the fact that Disney previously announced that there will be a “High School Musical 4”, but it won’t feature any of the original cast; instead, a nationwide casting call is underway to discover the faces who’ll relaunch the franchise with the fourth movie.
For those fans who jumped to the conclusion that a reunion movie was coming, their joy was palpable in the Twitterverse.
Yet that elation was short lived, and with ecstasy quickly turning to disappointment when fans learned the truth:
“HSM” star Ashley Tisdale joined the fray, tweeting to fans that she was “sorry for making you guys cry?”
Tisdale’s tweet, however, was not enough to quell the disappointment:
