Kathy Griffin’s friendship with Anderson Cooper is no longer.

After the comedian’s controversial picture of her holding a bloody and fake head of President Donald Trump was released back in May, Griffin received a lot of criticism and backlash. Cooper, her friend and former colleague, spoke out about the photo and said he was “appalled” and that it was “disgusting and completely inappropriate.”

After his comments, Cooper appeared on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” in July and said he hoped Griffin bounced back from the scandal and that they were still friends.

In a new in-depth interview with The Cut, Griffin says that Cooper didn’t reach out to her until Aug. 10, and by then it was too late. Cooper had sent Griffin a series of texts but Griffin told him their friendship was over. Friends who did reach out to Griffin include Kim Kardashian, Amy Schumer and Griffin’s fellow comedians.

Looking back on the photo, Griffin says she will continue to be political, regardless of whether it may upset audiences. “Comedians talk about what their audience is faced with every day, we try to relate to our audience,” she reveals. “I’m obsessed with politics. I always have been, and now, with Trump, many people are obsessed with politics, so that’s going to be a big part of my act.”

According to Griffin, she acknowledges that the photo had crossed the line but criticized Trump’s tweeting about the photo and condemning her for the shoot.

“When the president tweeted about me the morning after I released the image, it served as an executive order of sorts to his family and supporters to go after me,” she admits. “You may say I deserved it, but just think about it … the president of the United States and his family are going after a stand-up comic who had a show on the Bravo network called My Life on the D-List. If that isn’t punching down, I don’t know what is.”
