Is its title would suggest, the Toronto International Film Festival celebrates some of the top motion pictures from throughout the world, but now the star-studded festival will be adding TV to its roster.
In an announcement made today, festival organizers unveiled a new Primetime program that will focus on international television content, showcasing up to six “high-quality”; TV series currently aired by broadcasters, streaming services or independent filmmakers.
The lineup of TIFF-worthy television will be announced in the months to come, and will include public screenings and Q&As with show creators, who will also be part of the festival’s industry conference.
“What better way to celebrate our 40th anniversary than with a program that focuses on the new golden era of television that’s currently producing high-quality global programming, terrific writing, and direction that rivals the best feature filmmaking,” said festival director and CEO Piers Handling in a statement. “The festival has explored this area for years and we’re thrilled to provide an exclusive platform for these strong creative voices.”
This year’s TIFF runs from Sept. 10 to 20 in Toronto.
