When Jared Leto played the Joker in “Suicide Squad”, he became the latest actor to play the iconic “Batman” villain on the big screen, following such iconic performances as Jack Nicholson’s Joker in 1989’s “Batman” and Heath Ledger’s take on the character in 2008’s “The Dark Knight” — to say nothing of Mark Hamill voicing the Joker in animated “Batman” projects, and Cesar Romero’s campy characterization in the 1960s “Batman” TV series.

Given all those Jokers, Warner Bros. raised eyebrows by announcing plans for Leto to reprise the role in a “Suicide Squad” sequel and a standalone Joker and Harley Quinn movie, along with a different standalone Joker movie in which another actor altogether will play the comic-book villain in an origin story.

In a recent interview with On Demand Entertainment (above), Leto is questioned about the various Joker projects, and admits he’s not quite sure’s what with all those movies either.

“I’m a little confused too,” admits the Oscar-winner, noting that “there are a couple of things happening in the DC world,” and he’s maintaining an open mind.

“I love the Joker,” he says. “He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe, and when you play the Joker, there’s no ownership there. You have the honour of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. But there are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
