After speculation of a sequel to Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer, Sony confirms – it’s definitely happening.
The thriller starring Denzel told the story of an ex-CIA agent helping a young girl who is under the control of Russian gangsters. It is based on the 1980s television series of the same name. As for the sequel, the plot is still a mystery but it is expected that Denzel will reprise his role as Robert McCall.
The Equalizer“s box office success is what ultimately led to the creation of a second film. The movie went on to gross $200 million worldwide and reaped the highest-rated test screening for any R-rated movie in Sony history. Not bad for a film with a $55 million budget.
And who will be directing The Equalizer 2? There hasn’t been any confirmation (yet!) whether original director Antoine Fuqua will be sitting in the directing chair again. However we do know that he will be working with Denzel on another film,Magnificent Seven.
A release date for the sequel is still unknown.
