With Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do” holding the #1 position on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and second place taken by Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow”, the top two chart positions are filled by women.
This is the first time that female artists have held the #1 and #2 spots since 2014, when Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” captured the top two positions, notes Billboard.
Swift’s new single is clearly gaining traction, finally taking the #1 spot from “Despacito”, after the Luis Fonsi/Daddy Yankee/Justin Bieber collaboration spent a record-tying 16 weeks at #1.
In addition, Swift is the first female artist to land at the top of the Hot 100 since Sia hit #1 with her Sean Paul collaboration “Cheap Thrills” last year — and the first time a solo female has achieved that chart position since Adele hit #1 with “Hello” back in November 2015 (a chart run that continued until January 2016).
Meanwhile, fall 2017 is shaping up to feature even more female artists at the top of the charts; according to Billboard, we can expect high-profile albums coming out over the next few months from Demi Lovato, Pink, Fergie and Miley Cyrus.
