Angelina Jolie is opening up about her past difficult year, after filing for divorce from her husband Brad Pitt last September.
Speaking with People for an exclusive cover story with the magazine, the 42-year-old actress, director and mother of six reveals how she is doing following the couple’s public split that proceeded their 12-year relationship.
“I have had my ups and downs,” Jolie tells the magazine. “I guess I am a little bit stronger.” She adds, “We all have our difficult times, but as a mother you also have a responsibility first and foremost towards the kids.”
Speaking about her obligation to look after her children, the film producer continues, “Everything will be around the children. I haven’t worked for over a year now because they needed me at home. Everything was just stopped.”
Jolie recently brought her six children to the Toronto International Film Festival, where she premiered her latest film, “First They Killed My Father”, a biographical thriller based on the life of activist Loung Ung, who lived as a child solider during the Cambodian genocide.
“I think they’re itching to get out in the world again,” Jolie says to the magazine of her family’s private year. “We’ve all been a bit in lockdown and going through some things. I think it would be good to get out there and play together.”
