Candice Bergen once found herself on a blind date with a future U.S. President and one of the most controversial modern political figures.
The Golden Globe-winning actress paints a picture of the scene in an interview with Harry Connick Jr. on Thursday’s episode of “Harry”. “Is is true you went on a blind date with Donald Trump?” Connick asks. “Yes. Yes,” Bergen replies.
“I was 18. He was a nice looking guy… I was in college and it’s where he was going to be going to college,” Bergen explains. “It was like a blind date, he called me in the dorm and I was bored. So he picked me up, he was wearing burgundy three piece suit, with Burgundy patent leather boots and he was in a Burgundy limousine so it was very colour coordinated and I was home by nine.”
“By nine, you mean 9 a.m.” Connick Jr. teases. “Oh no, it was a very short dinner,” Bergen insists.
Speaking of interesting encounters, the 71-year-old actress is still learning how to navigate the rocky seas of social media. “I had a wonderful core group of followers and I know most of their email whatever you call it,” she says of her Instagram followers. “See I have no idea, email things.”
“I just did a movie with Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton and Mary Steenburgen and we were all watching the eclipse together, so I Instagrammed a photograph of us watching the eclipse and instantly my followers shot from 5,000 to 12,000 like over three days — but then I got creepy followers and one of them called me a tired a** honky hoe.”
But Bergen is ready to play ball: “So I changed my bio on my Instagram it used to be old white woman, so I just upgraded it to tired a** honky hoe.”
