Golden Globe winners Richard Gere and Peter Dinklage star in the dark comedy “Three Christs”.

Based on psychologist Milton Rokeach’s 1964 book The Three Christs of Ypsilanti, the film tells the story of Dr. Alan Stone and his groundbreaking treatment of the mentally ill through an experiment on three paranoid schizophrenic patients.

Bringing the trio together – played by Dinklage, Walton Goggins and Bradley Whitford, Stone confronts their conflicting claims and coaxes them into learning how to support one another despite their declarations to be the one and only saviour, Jesus Christ.

Film has a longstanding history of showing off the terrifying side of this mental disorder, but “Three Christs” interjects many moments of humour and humanity, showing that although we still have a long way to go in terms of understanding mental illness, treating those diagnosed as people not just patients is a step in the right direction.
