Today in awkward encounters between President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, we have an interesting handshake at a recent military event.
FLOTUS was introducing her husband of 12 years at an event at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland over the weekend, and following the introduction, the President took the stage and engaged in what some are calling a “frigid” handshake with his wife before gently ushering her away from the podium.
The awkward acknowledgement is just the latest between POTUS and FLOTUS. Back in May cameras caught as Melania seemed to swat away Donald’s hand when he tried to hold it on a trip to Israel.
Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel weighed in, calling it “the most uncomfortable display of affection between any husband and wife this year.”
Like the swat seen around the world, the handshake also did not go unnoticed by the Twittersphere with one user saying, “nothing says I love you my wife like a firm handshake and false pleasantries,” and another saying, “Ah yes, a handshake, so intimate, thank you very much husband sir, my misery is palpable, solid deal sir,” quipped @TrumpFlotus, an account which parodies the first lady.
