The 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” tops the box office for a second consecutive week.
Pennywise the Dancing Clown’s return is expected to gross an estimated $60 million in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, topping the box office for a second time. “It” has received tremendous buzz ever since the movie’s first trailer dropped and that momentum has carried it to record-breaking status.

The horror film broke the box office opening weekend record for both a September release and a horror film. Now, “It” can add highest-grossing September release ever to its list of accomplishments.
“It” has raked in $218.7 million domestically after 10 days and $371.3 million worldwide against a budget of $35 million. Unfortunately, however, with big box office winners also come box office disappointments.

Jennifer Lawrence’s thought-provoking psychological thriller “mother!” is having trouble finding its ground with an upsetting $7.5 million debut. Despite receiving an acceptable 69 per cent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, “mother!” became one of the rare films to ever received an “F” audience rating from CinemaScore.
An executive from Paramount defended the movie for pushing boundaries in spite of the negative audience reaction. “This movie is very audacious and brave,” Paramount worldwide president of marketing and distribution Megan Colligan told The Hollywood Reporter.
“You are talking about a director at the top of his game, and an actress at the top her game. They made a movie that was intended to be bold. Everyone wants original filmmaking, and everyone celebrates Netflix when they tell a story no one else wants to tell,” she continued. “This is our version. We don’t want all movies to be safe. And it’s okay if some people don’t like it.”
And sliding between “It” and “mother!” at the number two spot is “American Assassin”, which is expected to gross an estimate $14.8 million for its opening weekend.
