Followers of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” were less than thrilled to hear their favourite show had lost an Emmy to the reality singing competition. “‘The Voice is now America’s sworn enemy,” one Twitter user so eloquently wrote.

“The Voice” has long been an Emmy Awards favourite, having now won four of six nominations since 2012.

Many, however, expected the search for “America’s next drag superstar” to take victory in 2017. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” exploded onto the Emmys scene with eight nominations this year, five more than the show has received for its previous eight seasons combined.
