Ever since plans were announced to reboot “Tomb Raider” with Alicia Vikander taking over the role of Lara Croft from Angelina Jolie, fans have anxiously awaited footage from the upcoming action-adventure flick — and it’s finally arrived!
As a bonus, website IGN is hosting a live chat with “Tomb Raider” star Vikander to break down the trailer, beginning at 9:50 p.m. ET/12:50 a.m. ET (above).
Based on the video game franchise first launched in 1996, “Tomb Raider” follows Lara Croft as she tries to find out who murdered her father (Dominic West, “The Affair”), with other stars in the film including Daniel Wu (“Into the Badlands”) and Walton Goggins (“Justified”) as Croft’s villainous adversary.
While starring in an action movie may be a change of pace for the 28-year-old Swede, Vikander told Elle that “I knew we had to do something very different” in order to differentiate herself in a role so closely associated with her predecessor.
“I love big popcorn movies. I’ve never done action scenes on this level — not even close,” she added. “It feels like I’m back to dancing — the training, the intensity. You need to be aware of your movement up in the wires and how your body works. I’ve never been able to lift my own weight, and the day when you have that capacity, it’s pretty empowering!”
“Tomb Raider” is set to hit theatres on March 16, 2018.
