Melissa Joan Hart was slammed online Wednesday after complaining that her family vacation to the Caribbean had been ruined because of Hurricane Maria.
The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” actress took to Instagram to share a now deleted screenshot of the weather alert, alongside the caption: “And just like that, our family vacation is cancelled.
“Such a bummer but we plan to hit the @nickresortpuntacana resort another time this year,” she added.
Her comments immediately had social media users commenting in droves, with one person raging: “I think you should be more concerned with the people that live there instead of your meaningless vacation.”
“No compassion for the people, that have lost everything. Shame on her,” a second added.
A third wrote: “@MelissaJoanHart talk about an insensitive post. So out of touch with reality.”
Hurricane Maria has been wreaking havoc across the Caribbean, with the Turks and Caicos islands next in its path.
The storm has already hit the northern coast of the Dominican Republic with heavy rain and 115 mph winds, and it’s now been reported the hurricane could strengthen again over warm waters.
According to CNN reports, 14 people in Dominica have died, while 3 million living in Puerto Rico are completely without power.
ET Canada has contacted Hart’s rep for comment.
