Tupac Shakur’s brutal murder shocked the world 21 years ago, but Suge Knight – who witnessed the drive-by shooting back in 1996 – has now said he believes the rapper might still be alive.
There have been conspiracy theories doing their rounds online ever since the murder occurred and Knight has now fuelled those claims further by saying that when he left his friend in hospital he was “laughing and joking.”
In a clip obtained by TMZ of Knight speaking to Ice-T and Soledad O’Brien on the phone from LA County Jail, the record producer said: “When Pac died… if he really did, you know.”
“I mean when I left that hospital, me and Pac was laughing and joking,” he said. “So I don’t see how someone can turn from doing well to doing bad.”
Knight then responded, when asked if Tupac could still be alive: “I’m gonna tell you with Pac, you never know.”
The pair had been attending the Mike Sheldon vs. Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sept. 7, 1996 when tragedy struck and a “bow-tied” assassin opened fire.
Tupac – who died six days after the shooting from respiratory failure, which led to him suffering a cardiac arrest – was hit four times; twice in the chest, once in the arm and once in the thigh.
Knight – who is currently awaiting a murder trial, which is expected to begin in January – was arrested again in early 2015 after he ran over two men outside a Compton burger stand, killing one.
He previously claimed that his ex-wife and former Death Row Records security chief Reggie White Jr. were at the centre of the Tupac murder, with him insisting that he had been the real target.
