Jake Gyllenhaal is starring in the new film “Stronger”, but Ellen DeGeneres wanted see just how strong he really is.
On “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Friday, DeGeneres had Gyllenhaal on the show, along with Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, who the actor portrays in the film.
But the daytime TV host didn’t just have the two of them on to promote the film. She had another idea in mind: the Boston Strongman Challenge.

In the studio, DeGeneres set up an obstacle course Gyllenhaal had to complete, with a prize of $10,000 at the end going to 50 Legs, the charity of Bauman’s choice.
Bauman and DeGeneres stood by as Gyllanhaal ran through the course, tossing a keg onto a target, flipping a huge tire, pulling a golf cart full of women and deadlifting weights.
At the end of it all, she pulled out a giant cheque for $10,000 made out to 50 Legs, which helps to provide amputees necessary care and prosthetics in order to live happier and healthier lives.
Earlier in the show, DeGeneres played a hilarious clip of Bauman interviewing Gyllenhaal, asking him, “have you ever thought about doing a good movie? Like ‘Fast in the Furious’?”
Gyllenhaal also talked to DeGeneres about starring (and singing) in the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sunday in the Park with George”, calling it, “probably one of the most incredible experiences of my life.”
