When the possibility of a third “Sex And The City” movie was squashed by Sarah Jessica Parker on Thursday, many, including singer-songwriter Sia, did not take the news all that well.
The “Cheap Thrills” singer took to Twitter on Thursday pleading with Warner Bros. to give the threequel the green light. “Ok. @wbpictures can I just play Samantha and we give the people more ‘Sex and The City’? We’ll just pretend I had lots of plastic surgery!”
Sia’s mention of “SATC” character Samantha Jones comes as the Daily Mail claimed that actress Kim Cattrall was the reason behind the project’s disappointing cancellation.
According to the news outlet, Warner Bros. shelved the movie after Cattrall, who played the sex-obsessed Jones for six seasons, demanded the studio produce several of her own projects as part of the deal. “The only reason this movie isn’t being made is because of Kim Cattrall,” an insider revealed. “Everyone was looking forward to making this movie but Kim made it all about her, always playing the victim.”

“Kim held everyone’s life up. Her behaviour is beyond disappointing. We should’ve been shooting the movie and now everyone is wondering will this film ever get made,” a second source shared. “Everyone is very sad that the fans will now miss out on what was a wonderful story about the lives of four of their favourite women.”
Parker confirmed the news on Thursday with Extra, revealing that “it’s over… we’re not doing it.”
“I’m disappointed,” she continued. “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”
After waking up to a “sh** storm” on Friday, Cattrall has went on to slam the Daily Mail’s claims on Twitter. “The only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016,” she wrote.
Earlier this year, Cattrall told People she didn’t know if a third movie would happen, noting that “there’s nothing concrete. There’s no script, there’s no idea.”
Cattrall’s former co-star Kristin Davis took to social media to address the fact that “SATC3” won’t be happening, but didn’t lay any blame. She did, however, admit that “I haven’t quite gotten my mind around the fact that Charlotte will not continue on.”
Davis later elaborated on her frustration over the project on Instagram.
Pre-production on the third instalment was set to begin in the fall.
