Liam Payne helped One Direction achieve a feat never before accomplished and he did so by dethroning former group-mate Niall Horan.
“Strip That Down” featuring Quavo pushed its way to number one on Billboard‘s Top Pop Songs chart, replacing Horan’s hit single “Slow Hands”.
By doing so, 1D is officially the first group in history to spin-off three soloists each with chart-topping pop songs. Zayn Malik did it first with his 2016 breakout single “Pillowtalk”, soon followed by Horan and Payne in 2017.
The only other group to sniff One Direction’s record is Destiny’s Child, with Beyonce earning six solo number one songs and Kelly Rowland achieving one.
Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson have both charted, but have yet to break into the top 10. Styles’ “Sign of the Times” peaked at number 12 and Tomlinson’s “Back to You”, featuring Bebe Rehxa and Digital Farm Animals, peaked at number 25.
Malik left the group in 2015, one year before One Direction’s official hiatus.
