Things take a dark turn for Kate Winslet and Justin Timberlake in the first trailer for Woody Allen’s latest film, “Wonder Wheel”.
Set against the backdrop of 1950s Coney Island, “Wonder Wheel” is a tale of romance and mob revenge. The new movie follows the lives of four intertwined characters: clam house waitress Ginny (Winslet) and her Coney Island carousel-operator husband Humpty (Jim Belushi), Humpty’s estranged daughter Carolina (Juno Temple) who’s fleeing from her mobster husband, and lifeguard Mickey (Justin Timberlake), an aspiring playwright who narrates the tale. What begins as an idyllic and romanticized look at 1950s life near the beach quickly takes a dark and dramatic turn as Carolina, a marked woman on the run announces, “I know where all the bodies are buried.”
“There was not one single moment that I was not utterly terrified,” Winslet said, telling EW about taking on the role of Ginny in the melodrama. “It’s an incredibly complicated character – maybe the most complicated female character I’ve ever had the challenge of grappling with.”
Selected as the closing night film of October’s New York Film Festival, “Wonder Wheel” will open in theatres on Dec. 1.
