First Look At Keanu Reeves’ Chilling New Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Replicas’

By Brent Furdyk.

“There was a crash,” scientist Will Foster (Keanu Reeves) tells his wife (Alice Eve). “You and the kids died. I brought you back.”

That’s the creepy secret that’s at the heart of “Replicas”, the new sci-fi thriller that Reeves showcased Thursday at New York Comic-Con.

The film — which has yet to set a release date — stars Reeves as a cutting-edge researcher on the brink of figuring out how to transfer human consciousness to a computer, and then transfer that consciousness into an identical clone of someone who’s died in an attempt to cheat death. When his wife and three children are killed in a horrific car crash, he’s faced with a heart-wrenching choice when he only has the ability to bring back three of the four.

“There are some moral questions, some ethics questions about bringing someone back,” director Jeffery Nachmanoff told the Comic-Con crowd, reports Deadline. “You always have a price to pay when you fool around with mother nature.”

“I love science fiction, I love the Trojan horse of it,” declared Reeves of his affinity for sci-fi, “all other genres can fit inside science fiction.”

During the “Replicas” Q&A, Reeves also addressed rumours that another “Bill & Ted” movie was in the works, revealing that plans are underway but things are still in the very early stages. “Showbiz is rough, you know,” he said of the hopefully forthcoming project. “Hopefully that’ll work out.”
