WARNING: Spoilers ahead for the season premiere of “The Bachelor Canada”.
Raid the wine cellar, because Chris Leroux’s journey to find love has just begun on “The Bachelor Canada”.
(Side-note: Do NOT make a drinking game out of the use of the word “journey” this season. Just trust us.)
After hanging up his baseball gear and stepping up his beard game, the former MLB pitcher is looking to settle down and he’s hopeful that one of the 20 women he meets on the season premiere is the one for him.
Of course, they say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and some of these women sure know how to make an entrance. From Dee’s arrival on a dirt bike, to Lisa’s mermaid ensemble, to Meghan’s Newfoundland-style Screeching ceremony, the Bachelorettes left no stone unturned.
However, Mikaela’s entrance was both memorable and strategic, using promise rings to get Chris to give her some one-on-one time first.
The theatrics didn’t stop at the door, though. After learning it was Chris’ birthday, Pricilla pulled out the big guns, including a giant pop-out cake and a literal confetti gun. If only it had gone according to plan. “It was more awkward than entertaining,” Lisa admitted.
The opposite could arguably be said about Shanti’s presence among the women, which definitely brought the fireworks. After confessing her frustration that Chris didn’t seek her out (didn’t someone tell her how this show works?), the former model bolted for the bathroom, where she proceeded to lash out at a producer until Chris finally turned up to see what was the matter. Maybe not the conventional approach to romance, but at least she had some sort of strategy, right?
After giving Dee the coveted first impression rose, Chris ultimately had the tough task of sending five women home. Stephanie, Shaleen, Chelsea, Madelaine and Pricilla were all sent packing, proving that you can’t always pop out of your cake and eat it, too.
“The Bachelor Canada” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on W Network, followed by “The Bachelor Canada After Show”.
