UPDATE: Cate Blanchett Denies Saying She Had ‘Many’ Sexual Relationships With Women

UPDATE: Sunday, May 17 (4:53 p.m. ET) – Following her headline-making claim that she’s had sexual relationships with women “many times,”; Cate Blanchett is now denying it, claiming her words were taken out of context.

“From memory, the conversation ran: “Have you had relationships with women?’ And I said: “Yes, many times. Do you mean have I had sexual relationships with women? Then the answer is no,’ “; the actress said while appearing on the red carpet at Cannes at the premiere of her new film Carol (as reported by The New York Daily News).

As Cate recalls, the part about her relationships with women not being sexual in nature “obviously didn’t make it”; into the story.

However, the actress says that there’s a larger point to be made. “In 2015, the point should be: who cares?”; she said. “What often happens these days is if you are homosexual you have to talk about it constantly, the only thing, before you work. We’re living in a deeply conservative time.”;

Turns out Cate Blanchett was getting into character before she even had the role! The star who plays a bisexual woman in her upcoming film “Carol”;, which is based on Patricia Highsmith’s book “The Price Of Salt”;, has admitted to bisexual tendencies.

When asked if this was her first lesbian experience, she surprised everyone by telling Variety she’d had relationships with women “many times.”; And as we all know a lady never kisses and tells, so this lady left it at that.

Blanchett, who’s been happily married to her husband Andrew Upton for 18 years, tells the magazine she prepped for the role by reading “a lot of girl-on-girl books from the period.”; When asked about her character’s sexual orientation she says “I never thought about it, I don’t think Carol thought about it.”

The film is set in New York back in the 1950’s and also stars Rooney Mara as Blanchett’s love interest.
