Julia Roberts is speaking about about the Harvey Weinstein scandal, releasing a statement in which she urges women to stand up to predatory behaviour such as that exhibited by the disgraced movie mogul.
“A corrupt, powerful man wields his influence to abuse and manipulate women,” says Roberts in the statement, which she released to People.
“We’ve heard this infuriating, heartbreaking story countless times before,” continues Roberts, whose 2013 film “August Osage County” was produced by the Weinstein Company.
“And now here we go again,” she adds. “I stand firm in the hope that we will finally come together as a society to stand up against this kind of predatory behaviour, to help victims find their voices and their healing, and to stop it once and for all.”
In her statement, Roberts also encourages any woman who’s faced harassment or worse to seek help. “If you’ve been subjected to any kind of abuse or harassment, there are places to go for help, including the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN.org). Or call the National Sexual Assault Hotline 800-656-HOPE (4673),” she concludes.
Roberts is the latest star to come forward and condemn Weinstein as the scandal widens, with reports indicating Weinstein is now being investigated by the FBI to determine if he committed any federal crimes.
