Spanish-language telenovelas are known for their over-the-top acting and muy caliente storylines, but Mexican soap star Eduardo Yanez demonstrated his real-life temper is just as fiery as the hot-headed characters he’s played on TV.
Yanez, who’s starred in such telenovelas as “Amores con Trampa” and “Corazon Salvaje” and has appeared in such Hollywood productions as “CSI: Miami” and “NCIS: Los Angeles, was being interviewed on a red carpet recently when the jovial chat took a drastic left turn that saw the actor erupt in violence.
In the video of the incident (above), Yanez is seen laughing and joking with a Univision reporter until he asks a question about the actor’s son, with whom he reportedly has a fraught relationship (his son, reports People, recently described Yanez as “a drug addict, racist [who] abuses women.”
While the journalist explains he’s only asking what the public wants to know, Yanez angrily responds, “That’s bulls**t. That’s what you say to get people involved in what they don’t care about. But the concerned one is you, brother. You go and tell [my son] what you have to say.”
Yanez adds: “You are a pure a**. Do not disrespect me.” This is followed by Yanez hauling off and slapping the reporter across the face, hard.
The interview becomes tense at about the 1:10 mark, while the slap can be seen shortly after 1:30.
A “source close to the actor” told People en Español that Yanez is apologetic for his behaviour, but also blames the reporter for provoking him.
“He was defending his family and his word after all the harassment from the press,” claims the source. “No one likes to react like this, but if they provoke you that much and say things that hurt the ones around you, you wouldn’t allow it.”
