The “X-Men” universe is about to get a whole lot scarier.
In the first trailer for “The New Mutants”, the storied cinematic franchise takes a brand new direction, right into classic horror.
Released, appropriately enough, on Friday, Oct. 13, the trailer packs a frightening punch, beginning with the voice of actress Alice Braga asking a young girl, “Have you ever hurt someone?” as a creepy version of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” plays.
Along with Braga, the film stars a cast of young actors, including Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”), Anya Taylor-Joy (“Split”), Henry Zaga (“13 Reasons Why”), and Blu Hunt (“The Originals”). “The Fault in Our Stars” director Josh Boone is at the helm.
All five have been placed in a kind of hospital because of their dangerous mutant powers. But as they soon discover, things are much more terrifying than they first appear. “This isn’t a hospital, it’s a haunted house,” they learn.
Fans on Twitter got very excited by the trailer, and the promise of a new kind of superhero movie.
“The New Mutants” will be released in theatres Apr. 13, 2018.
