The passing of Gord Downie is touching the hearts of celebrities in Canada and people all around the world.
Downie, 53, died of brain cancer on Tuesday night and the sad news has elicited reactions from fellow entertainers like Rick Mercer and politicians like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The Tragically Hip frontman was diagnosed with terminal cancer in Dec. 2015, going public with the news the following May. The band performed one last Canada-wide tour in the summer of 2016, closing out in Kingston, Ontario, with a concert reportedly watched by 11 million Canadians around the country.

“I’m truly saddened by the news of Gord Downie’s passing,” said Gordon Lightfoot in a statement obtained by ET Canada. “Canada has lost one of its bright stars. He will be missed but not forgotten. I am thinking of his family today and send them my deepest condolences.”
