Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show is coming to an end, with The Hollywood Reporter confirming the streaming services is pulling the plug on “Chelsea” after just two seasons.

Launched in the spring of 2016 after she severed ties with E! and ended “Chelsea Lately”, Handler initially promised her new Netflix talk show would present celebrities “as you’ve never seen them before, engaging in thought-provoking, yet hilarious conversations about topics like international cultures, alternative lifestyles, education, health, sports, parenting, politics, and more.”

“Chelsea” was the first “on-demand” talk show to be offered on a streaming service, and won’t be the last — David Letterman will host a six-episode Netflix talker that is said to be vastly different from his groundbreaking “Late Night” and subsequent “Late Show”.

Handler herself explained that she “decided not to return for another season” so she can
instead focus on political activism, revealing in a lengthy Twitter message that she plans to “devote as much time as I can to becoming a more knowledgeable and engaged citizen and to focus on projects that have significance to me.”

Her goal, she explains, “is to be better informed, raise my voice, and participate in a more meaningful way. I want to travel the country and visit areas and people I don’t know enough about, speak at colleges and listen to students, and gain a better understanding of our political divide. I have joined forces with EMILY’s List to elect more women to public office, register people to vote, and campaign for candidates who are fighting for women’s rights.”

The end of “Chelsea”, however, doesn’t mean the end of her relationship with Netflix, and she says she and the streaming service will be “working together on a documentary where I’ll engage with people I don’t talk with enough – people of different ethnicities, religions and political philosophies. Netflix could not be more understanding, and I’m grateful for their continued support. New episodes of Chelsea will continue to stream weekly until the end of this year.”

Following Handler’s tweet, feud-loving U.K. talk show host Piers Morgan issued a snarky response to her tweet.
