This may surprise you to hear, skipping Cannes for fear of “body shaming”; is a thing. Yes actresses feel self-conscious too, and Andie MacDowell is one of those actresses revealing to the world that she once skipped the film festival because of her baby weight-gain.
The year was 1989, Andie had just given birth to her daughter, Rainey Qualley, when duty called and she was invited to Cannes thanks to her role in “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”;. She tells reporters: “I didn’t come because I had just had my daughter, and I was nursing her and really round and I was afraid people would make fun of me.”;
It’s sad to think that a new mom would feel like this, but in the world of Hollywood it makes sense. Today at 57-years-old MacDowell is very comfortable in her skin and admits that not going “was stupid. Now in hindsight, because I’ve matured and I’m older, I don’t really care what people say.”;
Just like any young actress in Hollywood, Andie was hard on herself especially when it came to her appearance, telling People “I used to think my thighs were too big, I wish I would have worn short shorts nonstop when I was young! That’s a shame! It’s funny how we can beat ourselves up for something so stupid.”;
Now she feels more confident than ever before, her secret: “yoga and meditation, taking walks, watching how I think, staying positive, drinking a lot of water, eating really healthy.”;
