Kate Hudson saw herself touring the globe one day singing in front of sold-out crowds, not vying for an Academy Award.

The “You, Me and Dupree” actress revealed to The Edit how she always pictured herself being a pop star growing up. “I thought music would be my route, the pop world, but I got into musicals at school and… that was it,” she confessed.

Hudson, 38, instead went on to star in such films as “Almost Famous”, for which she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Speaking of the Oscars, Hudson dished on what it was like growing up the daughter of Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn and singer Bill Hudson. “I was a very focused little girl,” Hudson admitted. “I didn’t rebel from my parents because I wanted validation from them.”

“I never came home with a piercing or a tattoo; I was always the designated driver,” she added. “I got a bit boy-crazy in high school, but I didn’t party, so I was never the coolest person in class. At the weekends, I wasn’t chilling with friends; I had s**t to do! I still do – I can’t not be busy.”

So what is life like now that she is in her parents’ shoes, raising two sons of her own? “It was a lot. My 20s were like a fast track into adulthood,” Hudson explained. The actress welcomed her first son Ryder, now 13, while filming back-to-back movies in her mid-20s. “Things calmed down in my 30s… A bit!”

Despite insisting “things calmed down,” Hudson starred in three films in 2016.

Nevertheless, 2017 looks a little less hectic with her sole acting role this year being in the biographical legal drama “Marshall”, alongside Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad and Sterling K. Brown.
