Justin Bieber has apparently been spending a lot of time at the tattoo parlour, and on Saturday morning took to Instagram to show off his new tattoos, revealing his entire torso has been completely inked.
Posting a shirtless selfie with no caption, Bieber followed that up with a brief video focusing on his new tats, which cover his chest and stomach, including the faces of a lion and a bear, along with various other depictions.
So how are Beliebers reacting to The Biebs’ new ink? Not well. Not well at all.
In fact, as soon as they got a glimpse of his tats, angry fans took to Twitter to offer their opinions, which ran the gamut from “Nooooo!” to “Why?!”
To experience the disturbance that’s rippling through the Twitterverse, check out a sampling of tattoo-related tweets from Beliebers expressing their shock and dismay at their hero’s tatted torso.
Following the furor, Bieber’s tattoo artist — who is known professionally as Bang Bang — revealed that the tattoo took three days to complete, and explained the meaning behind the ink.
“We added two angels, one on each side,” Bang Bang told E! News. “Below each one, they’re dominating the evil. Whenever I do an epic piece, there needs to be the positive and negative. There needs to be a balance…visually there needs to be contrast. Below each of the angels, there is a demon that needs to be defeated. The skeleton on one side and the serpent on the other.”
He continued: “It’s symbolic of Gothic art and the struggle between the light and dark, the good and the evil, Yin and Yang. I wanted to make sure we had contrast in subject matter and imagery. The thing that made the most sense to me was a tattoo describing his spirituality. The animals he has, his spirit animals as well as the angels, his guardians. I was trying to make it super meaningful and not scattered.”
As the tattoo artist explained, he received a call from Bieber about filling in empty spaces on his torso. “He said he has a moustache on his belly, referring to the eagle, and it just needed more around it so it wasn’t so isolated and floating in the middle of his stomach,” said Bang Bang with a laugh. “I don’t know why he thought it looked like a mustache. Maybe one of his friends told him that.”
Bang Bang said that he worked on the design for three weeks after sending Bieber a number of different ideas.
“He said he wanted me to cover his front, so I sent him a bunch of options,” said Bang Bang. “They were all religious in subject. I explained to him that the whole front should be one idea. I didn’t actually cover anything. There are no cover ups.”
Bieber’s fans may not want to hear this, but the singer isn’t finished his tattoo journey yet. “I’m coming back soon,” added Bang Bang. “I did the bottom half of his front but still need to do the top.”
