Matt Damon is opening up about what he did and did not know about allegations of sexual abuser Harvey Weinstein, admitting that he knew the producer had harassed Gwyneth Paltrow.
In an interview on “Good Morning America” Damon and his “Suburbicon” director George Clooney sat down with Michael Strahan to talk about the Weinstein scandal.
“When people say like, ‘Everybody knew,’ Like, yeah I knew,” Damon said. “I knew he was an a**hole. He was proud of that.”
“I knew he was a womanizer,” the actor added. “I wouldn’t want to be married to the guy. But that’s not my business really. But this level of criminal sexual predation is not something that I ever thought was going on. Absolutely not.”
Damon then said that he did know of at least one incident of harassment. “I knew the story about Gwyneth from Ben [Affleck],” he said. “I never talked to Gwyneth about it. Ben told me, but I knew that they had come to whatever, you know, agreement or understanding that they had come to, she had handled it. She was, you know, the first lady of Miramax. And he treated her incredibly respectfully.”
Clooney added that he was not aware of the allegations against Weinstein. “The fact that the story is coming out now and the more it comes out, I want to know all of it,” he said.
