The debut trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film “Phantom Thread”, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, has been released.
In the first look at the 1950s post-war drama, which will mark the 60-year-old actor’s final on-screen performance, Day-Lewis appears as renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock, whose regimented life in London is disrupted by a new love.

According to the film’s official synopsis, which was draped in secrecy during the filming process, “Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship” until he meets “Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover.”
This past June, a representative for the three-time Oscar winner confirmed in a statement to Variety that he would be retiring from acting: “Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision.”
The film, which marks Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth movie and second collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis (after 2007’s “There Will Be Blood”), will debut in select theatres this Christmas and expand in January 2018.
