The allegations emerged Sunday night in a report by BuzzFeed, in which “Star Trek: Discovery” star Anthony Rapp accused the Oscar-winning actor of making inappropriate sexual advances toward him over 30 years ago when he was only 14. Spacey was 26 at the time.

The 46-year-old actor said that Spacey had brought him into his bedroom after a party in his apartment, and lay down on top of him. Rapp eventually left the apartment.

“House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon responded to the allegations with a statement saying he was not aware of such behaviour by the show’s star, adding, “I take reports of such behaviour seriously.”

Spacey, 58, released a statement claiming he did not remember the alleged incident, while apologizing to Rapp and coming out as gay.

Many in the LGBTQ community reacted to Spacey’s statement, which they said drew a false line between homosexuality and pedophilia. Celebrities, meanwhile, reacted to the news of the allegations against Spacey, expressing their shock and outrage on Twitter at both Rapp’s account of the incident, as well as Spacey’s statement.
