Rose McGowan was arrested Tuesday, and subsequently released on bond after reporting to authorities in Virginia in relation to the arrest warrant issued Feb. 1 for felony possession of a controlled substance.
According to The Blast, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office states that the former “Charmed” star appeared on Tuesday to turn herself in, at which point she was placed under arrest. A mugshot (below) was taken.
“Ms. McGowan appeared in Loudoun County, Virginia, on November 14, 2017, to accept service of the Airports Authority Police arrest warrant,” officials stated, “and she was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.”
On Oct. 30, McGowan — who has accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her — took to Twitter to imply the warrant was an attempt to “silence” her, calling the situation “horsesh**.”
As it turns out, according to the Associated Press, the warrant was issued on Feb. 1, after airport police found traces of narcotics on personal belongings the 44-year-old had left on a United Airlines flight at Washington Dulles International Airport on Jan. 20.
Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department spokesman Rob Yingling told Deadline, “Our police have attempted to contact Ms. McGowan so that she can appear in a Loudoun County Virginia court to respond to the charge.”
In recent weeks, McGowan has been raising awareness for women victimized by powerful men in Hollywood, and alleging she was raped by producer Harvey Weinstein.
“I have been silenced for 20 years. I have been slut-shamed. I’ve been harassed. I’ve been maligned,” McGowan said at the Women’s Convention in Detroit on Friday. “You know what? I’m just like you because what happened to me behind the scenes happens to all of us in this society and that cannot stand and it will not stand.”
