Critics and fans alike have voiced their disappointment with the films of DC’s Extended Universe (DCEU), but now one of the properties’ biggest stars, Henry Cavill, is addressing the DCEU’s missteps.
Despite the moderately positive reviews of “Man Of Steel” starring Cavill as Superman, the DCEU has faced a string of disappointments like “Suicide Squad” and “Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and constant comparisons to the juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle,” Cavill, 34, tells The Rake. “There was a style [Warner Bros. and DC Comics] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked,” he says, possibly alluding to the serious tone of director Zack Snyder’s “Man Of Steel” and “Batman V. Superman”.

“Yes, it has made money, but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer,” Cavill explains.
With this summer’s “Wonder Woman” a critical and commercial success, the studio behind the DC superhero movies, Warner Bros., is hanging their hopes on “Justice League”. For Cavill, “Justice League” needs to capture what made “Wonder Woman” so successful and try to put the DCEU on the right track.
“I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told,” he explains. “It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. ‘Wonder Woman’ was the first step in the right direction.”
“Justice League” is due in theatres on Nov. 17.
