The Fox News network is firing back at Lindsay Lohan following a defamation suit she and her mom Dina launched after on-air commentator Michelle Fields remarked that “Lindsay Lohan’s mom is doing cocaine with her.”;
In their lawsuit, Lindsay and Dina called the claim “totally irresponsible” and “malicious innuendo” that “smeared” the pair.
At the time, a rep for Fox News claimed the network would “defend this case to the fullest,”; and that certainly appears to be the case now that its defence has been filed.
According to TMZ, Fox News “has come out swinging”; by referring to the Mean Girls star as “admitted cocaine user and long-time addict Lindsay Lohan.”;
TMZ notes that Fox News is launching a three-pronged defence strategy: host Sean Hannity didn’t say the inflammatory remarks, a guest did; the network is protected under the U.S. Constitution’s right to free speech; and Lindsay has admitted to using cocaine.
In addition, TMZ reminds us that the Lohans’ case won’t be helped by Lindsay’s leaked 2012 phone call to father Michael Lohan, in which she claims Dina is holding her hostage and says, “Mom’s on coke.”;
