While Catilyn Jenner has been basking in the praise of well-wishers and garnering a whopping 2.3 million Twitter followers after making her debut on Monday, Jon Stewart took to the airwaves last night to deliver an epic rant — not criticizing the transgender woman we used to know as Bruce Jenner, but the media obsession that ignores her accomplishments and instead focuses primarily on her appearance.
“It’s really heartening to see everyone willing to not only accept Caitlyn Jenner as a woman, but to waste no time in treating her like a woman,”; said Stewart on Tuesday’s Daily Show. “You see, Caitlyn, when you were a man, we could talk about your athleticism, your business acumen. But now you’re a woman, and your looks are really the only thing we care about.”;
To bolster his point, a clip was shown featuring a montage of talking heads discussing what Stewart called Jenner’s “comparative f***ability”; to women such as Kim Kardashian and Jessica Lange (to whom Caitlyn bears a striking resemblance).
“Look, we wanna give a woman a compliment here,”; Stewart quipped in a tone dripping with sarcasm. “We just need to make sure another woman gets taken down a peg in the process. It’s how we maintain the balance.”;
He concluded: “So, Caitlyn Jenner, congratulations. Welcome to being a woman in America.”;
